Brisbane carbon calculator

The Brisbane carbon calculator can help you estimate your carbon emissions and check your progress towards a more sustainable lifestyle. The calculator is based on local Brisbane data.

Council's goal is for Brisbane to be a carbon neutral city by 2026.

To achieve this goal, we have set a target of reducing average emissions from 16 tonnes per household to 10 tonnes per household by 2012 - a 30% reduction in emissions from home energy, transport and waste.

We're all different, so your emissions might be much higher or lower. Set a target that's ambitious for you. You will find many of your actions will save you money as well as contributing to our sustainable city vision

Do you have a Solar Hot Water system? Yes No

Did you know

Household emissions in Brisbane would be cut by one third if all electric hot water systems were replaced with solar hot water heaters.

Switching to GreenPower is something you can do today to instantly reduce your electricity emissions to zero. Try different figures in the green energy box and see what effect it has on your emissions.

Vehicle Travel

If you are calculating your household’s carbon footprint, include everyone's car use. If you calculating your own, estimate how much YOU drive.

Drag the blue sliders up and down to indicate how full your bins are.

Do you compost your garden waste? Yes No
Do you compost your food scraps? Yes No

Did you know

Council is working to capture landfill methane emissions to convert into energy.

But the best way to reduce emissions from waste is avoid sending compostable waste to landfill in the first place.

Air Travel

Council's 10 tonne per household target by 2012 does not include air travel and other behaviours, such as food choices and purchasing.

Making more sustainable choices can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

If you are calculating your household's carbon footprint, include everyone's air travel. If you calculating your personal carbon footprint, include only your own.
